Hello

Welcome to Theatre Writing Partnership online

Happy New Year!

We’re very excited by the number of new year opportunities for theatre writers which have been popping into our inbox this month. We’re doing our best to keep you posted so keep in touch with our updates.

Our Making Tracks projects have got off to a good start with Michael Pinchbeck heading to Paris this month. You can keep up to date with his process by visiting his blog via his website www.michaelpinchbeck.co.uk. Esther Richardson and Laura Lomas have been visiting the Occupy sites and interviewing people there and the other artists are busy planning their journeys. You can keep up to date with Making Tracks on this website, at our tumblr page: TWPMakingTracks.tumblr.com and on our Making tracks Facebook page. We will be sharing film clips and podcasts as well. The artists we will be supporting are: Jane Upton, Michael Pinchbeck, Andy Barrett, The Gramophones, Mufaro Makubika, Laura Lomas and Esther Richardson (working together) and Amanda Whittington.

Also keeping us busy is Breath of Fresh Air – our collaboration with Belton House in Grantham to make an interactive educational activity for families so that they can explore and learn about Belton Park. Playwright Judy Upton has delivered  the second draft of the script and our tech team are putting together the technical nitty gritty to create a web app through which the creative experience can be accessed and enjoyed on mobile phone, tablet or Ipod. Thanks to our expert advisors – year 6 pupils at Belton Lane School who have been testing out our ideas and giving us feedback – the whole project is shaping up nicely and will be ready to be tested on site in March next year.

And finally we have been busy working with two playwrights (Marilyn Ricci and Sayan Kent), a partner theatre company (Kali Theatre based in London)  and three community groups in Leicester to create a new piece of theatre based on their earliest memories. There will be a sharing of this work at Curve Theatre on 2 February.

PS If you’re visiting our site looking for the notes from our recent Open Space event for the region which had a great turnout of around 80 people (from artistic directors of regional theatres to individual practitioners, writers and companies)  Check them out. Let us know your thoughts.
