Five Writers. Five new ideas for rural touring.
Late last year, Theatre Writing Partnership joined forces with New Perspectives and Eastern Angles Theatre Companies to with the aim of diversifying the voices of writers in the realm of rural touring. Experienced writers were invited to submit their proposals to the scheme and five writers were selected: Leah Chillery, Julius Ayodeji, Richard Rai O’Neill, Tyrone Huggins and Segun Lee French.
Two of the pieces will be produced in the near future – Palm Wine and Stout by Segun Lee French will be staged in October 2010 by Eastern Angles and The Honeyman by Tyrone Huggins will be staged by New Perspectives in 2011. To whet your appetite here’s a summary of the five Writer’s lab plays and more information about the writers.
Looking forward to new opportunities.
In November 2008, TWP worked with Newark and Sherwood District Council at Newark Palace theatre to lead a series of workshops for mature writers. Noel Greig, Philip Osment and Kully Thiarai guided the writers through practical exercises to create a dramatic text to be performed. The writing was brought to life in an event at Newark Palace theatre in March 2009, by talented actors Lynette Clark, Gilly Goodman and Gary Lagden.
