Arts/Education specialist wanted

THEATRE WRITING PARTNERSHIP IS LOOKING FOR A FREELANCE ARTS/EDUCATION SPECIALIST TO HELP US SET UP A NEW YOUNG WRITERS PROGRAMME IN EAST MIDLANDS SCHOOLS.

Theatre Writing Partnership is based at Nottingham Playhouse and works with theatres and theatre writers throughout the East Midlands and beyond. We find new ideas for performance; support and develop the best ones and then present and showcase new work on a regular basis. We work with writers, directors and actors and with theatre companies and theatre venues.

Since 2005, Theatre Writing Partnership has worked with young people aged 15 to 26  across the East MIdlands region, inviting them to apply for our young writers programme and developing new plays with a selected number of applicants. We offer them mentoring, workshops, a chance to work with actors and directors and a platform in a regional theatre at which their work will be shown.

In 2011 we want to develop a new branch of our young writers programme so that we can make an offer to schools, or clusters of schools in the East Midlands region. Our aim is to structure a programme which offers schools a meaningful and deliverable process which will enhance the curriculum. The programme will give young people in school the opportunity to write their own piece for the stage which will be developed with input from a professional playwright and workshopped by a team of actors and director for an informal sharing.

We are looking for someone who can help us research, structure and make this offer to schools in the region over the coming months. This will be a freelance contract of approximately 15 days (possibly more if needed) paid at a rate of £175 per day plus travel expenses. Our ideal candidate is someone who has worked in schools or closely with schools delivering or managing creative projects. We are looking for someone with up to date knowledge of secondary education and ideally of the East Midlands region. We are not looking for someone with expertise in playwriting but an interest in or understanding of theatre making would be very useful.

The contract will involve some days at Theatre Partnership’s office in Nottingham but depending on the focus of the work will also involve travelling to meetings in schools within the East Midlands region. The time frame for this work is flexible but we would like it to be carried out between March and July 2011 with a view to delivering the new programmes in school in Autumn 2011 and Spring 2012.

If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Theatre Writing Partnership with your CV and a covering letter.

Send it to Bianca Winter bianca@theatrewritingpartnership.org.uk. If you would like more information about us or about this project please get in touch with Kate Chapman at kate@theatrewritingpartnership.org.uk. Deadline for applications is FRIDAY 25 FEBRUARY.
