How can we (artists and companies) use our venues and audiences to shape our work?

Issue: How can we (artists and independent theatre companies) use our regions venues and audiences to shape our work?

Convener(s): Phil Coggins (Babbling Vagabonds)

Participants: Naomi Wilds, Chris Sudworth, Tilly Branson, Martin Berry, Leon Wilmans, Gerogia Munnion, Alison Garner, Phil Coggins, Martin Sutherland, Ashley Smith, Laura White (ACE), Michaela Butter.

Summary of discussion, conclusions and/or recommendations:

Houses don’t get that many approaches from artists to try new work.
Emerging companies need access to space, scratch performance opportunities, mentoring/nurturing, and programming.
Can we change the views of the Artists and the Venues about each other, how can we set up conversations to see how we can help each other to create new work.
Look at projects within the region (Theatre Lab – at Royal and Derngate) and to other regions for working models – ‘Midlands Made’ – ACE (Laura White) and Chris Sudworth at the Core Corby and Michaela Butter to set up a meeting to discuss a way which we can create a model for a Midlands platform of new work and build that into programmers in the region. ANYONE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING PLEASE EMAIL: about joining the discussion.

For theatre makers to be more pro-active about approaching venues to start conversations about new work creation and access to space and audiences.
